Why do we adopt any other approach than "win-win'? The answer is mostly because we think it is not just enough for us to win; it is also required for the other person to lose as there is only so much for everyone. Across regions, many generations of past have seen that for themselves. They could see the scarcity of resources around them. The Jungle rule tells us that if we don't kill, we will get killed. So the survival of one is directly dependent on the elimination/eradication of the other. Food, water, shelter, land and all other resources are not sufficient for all.
The question which comes to mind is, has the world changed. But, the more important question to answer here is not about the world, but our worldview. Can we change our world-view, can we have a context of having sufficient for all. It is what Covey calls the 'Abundance Mentality". There are opportunities for all. There is enough for everyone to get what they want.
Achieving an abundant mindset can reduce your anxiety about competing with others and foster gratitude for your available opportunities. You can move from playing a game of Win-Lose to "Win-Win or No Deal".
