Feelings: Being as an act, not an identity

Feelings come and they go. The one thing that is common about the feelings is that are momentary. And, to be able to identify a feeling – as emotions or sensations is crucial. Feelings as emotions tell us about our present way of being and how we see life around us. They reveal us of who we are. A happy person will have joyful feelings, a miserable one will have a feeling of suffering. But one has to realise that both these extreme feelings and everything within this spectrum is all temporary, momentary (one has to realise this, and realising is beyond merely knowing).

While feelings seem to be triggered by an external factor, if one is observant to them closely, they can realise that there is a choice – a choice at each moment to choose what they want to feel.

One needs to simply be present to the feeling – moment by moment; and not identify themselves with that feeling.

Being with the feeling – being as an act, is the key. One needs to simply be present to the feeling – moment by moment; and not identify themselves with that feeling. Only in that being, one will be able to choose their responses freely.
