Feelings: Being present to my feelings

Feelings have several facets to it. ‘Feelings’, as a word, is quite complex. It could be understood in a multitude of ways. They can be experienced as sensations on or within one’s body. It can also be experienced as an emotions state from within. Feelings can also be a hunch or an intuition over a particular subject or it can, on the extreme opposite end of the spectrum, be a wild imaginary guess. They come in different ways and means and have a greater gamut in which they can be positioned.

In all respect, a feeling is quite different from an emotion. Emotion is only an internal mental state and they have not much the world we come in contact with, although they may be triggered from the world outside. But feelings represent both in physical and mental form within one’s body as well as they are outwardly expressed. They have the power to affect an outward reality of individuals, or masses. It can collectively cause an effect on a set of people or a community or even a country.

Therefore, one finds it difficult to catch one’s own feelings. In such a situation, clearing becomes a bit of a challenge. Clearing is a state in which one merely become present to what they are experiencing is a challenge because we have never been trained to observe and acknowledge neither our emotions nor our feelings.

It is only that if one acknowledges their own experienced feelings by being true to themselves, they will be able to distinctly identify and pin upon their exact feelings and state of mind at that point in time. That will bring them at ease.

To simply write my own feelings as they are, and not as my story allows me to be with my own feelings. Clearing happens inside of this space.

One way to do that could be to sit comfortably and observe the present feelings – as a state of mind that one is in, one is experiencing, and see how they are causing feelings – as an effect on their own body. One can sensitively observe, contemplate and acknowledge their own feelings – internal as well as bodily. There are various ways and means in which one can acknowledge. One of the easiest and an effective way is writing. To simply write my own feelings as they are, and not as my story allows me to be with my own feelings. Clearing happens inside of this space.
