Bringing Context: Being Slow

Writer's picture: ThirteenThirteen

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi discovered that people find genuine satisfaction during a state of consciousness called Flow. In this state, one completely absorbed in an activity, especially an activity which involves one's creative abilities.

Jon Kabat Zinn has defined mindfulness meditation as “the awareness that arises from paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally”. By focusing on the breath, the idea is to cultivate attention on the body and the mind as it is, moment by moment, to help let go of the pain, both physical and emotional.

Somewhere in experiencing both mind and body is the experience of Slowness. It is to be in an act wholeheartedly, willingly and without any judgement or evaluation. It's a state of being in a zone.
