Business of Fear

"Immunity Chicken" on restaurant menus and on a section of e-Commerce platforms. Although expensive, you get something to eat at the end of the day. Then there are alternative medicines too. "Black cobra oil, two drops daily for 7 days" and the "Rog Mukti Nashak Yantra"(A tool for disease-free living), here you pay and buy bullshit from the quacks. But in either of the cases, the whole business model is based on human fear. Here, you do not just expend money but there is also an opportunity cost that one pays. When a person having symptoms of any illness is spending time visiting quacks and eating the red/ green chatni (sauce) for curing serious illnesses, they lose on getting an accurate diagnosis and timely treatment. Thus further complicating things and at times even people losing lives. According to a 1996 Supreme Court ruling, anyone who practices modern medicine without an allopathic degree is considered a quack. It is very clear, there is no business as the business of fear.

Why do even the so-called educated people fall prey to such tricks? It can be the fear to face reality. It can also be a desperate attempt to solve the problem in an easy way. As seen in the grief curve of Kubler-Ross after a shock, we move from denial to anger and then into bargaining which is the most irrational of all the stages. It is here that we fall prey to such tricks. The faster we move out of this phase into first depression, and then acceptance, it is better for us, definitely better than 'Rog Mukti Nashak Yantra'.
