Fear of Failure

Many of us fear failure. But, like the tag line of a popular aerated drink, that means to convey that there's a whole new world beyond fear, surpassing fear will only set us free. The fear associated with failure is most likely that of shame. The fear comes from what someone else - parent, sibling, friend, relatives, society or colleagues - would say or think about me. Frankly, nobody has that much time to think about you.

An easy way out to overcome this fear of failure is that we have to realise that failure is not a person or an individual, failure is a mere event. Our failure, often, we associate as "I'm a failure". But the reality is that I failed at a particular task, event, organisation or something that I was up for. Once that realisation happens, it's easy to let go of that fear.

It's also important to realise that you're most likely to fail when you take up something beyond ordinary. If you go into something that you know you'll surpass, then, perhaps you're not challenging yourself. It's only when you take up something big, you're likely to fail. You're likely to fail in something that is challenging your current abilities. Therefore, failure is an opportunity to elevate ourself than something to be ashamed about.

In several instances, this new purview, this new insight has helped me overcome my fears. How do you see failure as? What's your association with failure? Is there a better way to be with failure? We would be more than happy to hear from you about your experience and encounters with failures.
