Technology is what distinguishes us from monkeys. When it comes to reactions to our surrounding situations and challenges we still use our reptile brain. Thus our immediate reaction is to fight or flight. When we can't do both our stress level increases as there is no outlet for energy. Both fight or flight consumed a lot of energy, which is in the modern world remains suppressed.
What happens when it gets a sudden outlet in a word fight? We all see people shouting in flights, trains, movie halls, malls and other public places. We also do the same in our private spaces. So many things we say and do which we would otherwise have avoided. It is just in that spur of the moment that we just outburst all inside us. Many times it takes unwanted turns and irreparable damage is done.
What happens if we use writing as a way of letting go. Instead of waiting for one big outburst, why not keep puncturing our thoughts on a regular or rather daily basis. Writing as a coping mechanism can help us avoid getting into stressful situations. It has no side-effects and it is also a healthy way to deal with situations. An excellent attempt at training our reptile brain.
