“Forgive but not forget” is a very famous quote. It not only sounds good but also makes a lot of sense in a practical world. There are several religious and spiritual concepts and rituals which emphasis on the importance of forgiveness. Several mythological and moral stories are set on the premise of forgiveness.
When does one forgive? You forgive when you are hurt by someone. The real freedom is to transcend getting hurt in the first place. If you are not hurt then there is no question of forgiving. When we say we are hurt what exactly happens. When there is an “I” it is vulnerable to hurt, flattery and validation. The moment you see that I as your own creation and not a reality then there is no question of subjecting anything unreal to be hurt. Freedom is not only the choice one has if not allowing the other person to hurt but to actually transcend hurt altogether, forever.
