Gandhiji, the father of our nation, we often say, fought for our freedom. It is true, but he never was interested in achieving the freedom from the British. He was, perhaps, playing a bigger game. His politics was quite different.
You see Gandhiji steadfastly followed his method and means to achieve independence rather than focusing on the goal to achieve independence. He persistently chose and strode the path of means over ends. So, what did that do? It got us freedom in the most absurdist manner one could imagine. Think about it... Gandhiji never picked up a weapon, he even never used his walking stick to poke the British!
Gandhiji, who was a global apostle of peace, brought great deal of non-violence into his actions. That was his means. His politics not only looked at giving India her independence, but also gave Indians a way of life, a sense of oneness, an ability to forgive, a deep sense of rootedness. And, that shaped and influenced greatly not just us, Indians but humanity around the world.
Today’s post, on Gandhiji’s 151st Birth Anniversary, is a tribute to him.
We also launch our podcast today, and the first episode titled “Gandhiji’s Goat” is available in the podcast section (www.creating13.com/podcast) of our website.
