Gardening and Catharsis

Money Plants, this name definitely increased my curiosity as a child. Some friends told me it brings money and wealth to a house where it grows; others rubbished that and said its the plant lovers hobby. And I left it there. Of course, gardening was something I always liked but never too seriously.

In the last months, somehow, I have started spending times with plants. I have a few of them at home. I water them based on a schedule; I put them in sunlight, I clean and spray them. I don't do it as a duty or activity. It is more of being with the plants and the process of watering. To touch, feel the leaves and to lift plants with care is mindfulness for me. I am connected to nature, and that establishes a relationship with something larger than myself. I have a sense of satisfaction of giving and yet an attitude of gratitude for what I have got from nature.

Gardening is indeed cathartic.
