The distinction between habit and hobby is same like the distinction between game and a play. When kids play, they don’t have a scoreboard, they don‘t play for an audience and most importantly they play what they enjoy. Same way, your hobby is the self expression of who you are. It is something that gives you joy and satisfaction. Hobbies are not decided, they are developed. Hobbies are not tracked, one lives them like life. You don’t need reminders and planners for a hobby.
Habit on the other hand is to do something mechanically. It is to set your mind on a particular task or activity and then bring repetition to it. It is like a game. It has a tracker, a scoreboard and many a times its done for the audience and not for one’s own joy and happiness.
If habit is about crossing a river on a bridge, hobby is about swiming across the river in fresh water. The bridges of habit are build on known tracks, with support of tools and techniques. It helps cross, but there is no fun. Swiming on the other hand is unpredictable, its new every time . It is a journey which can take to a new destination every single time.
For, every time, the swimmer is no more the same and the water is no more the same.
