Meredith Belbin, an English researcher and management consultant is well known for his behavioural test "The Belbin Team Inventory". It has 9 roles of every team, we will see them all here, of course doing justice to the topic of this week. Who do you want to be?
PLANT: Not because this guy grows like a plant. If you want to to be a plant you should have crazy ideas to share. No no, you don't have to do anything to be free. Just share all your pipe dreams to be a plant. The most a plant does is to use fancy virtual backgrounds on Zoom calls. Sometimes when they wear a green/blue dress, zoom assumes it to be a greenscreen and puts all those background flowers on their body. Making them look like a real plant!
RESOURCE INVESTIGATOR: To be this guy you need internet and google. Keep surfing and searching. Whatever you get, make it fit your project. Ok so you now know that zoom has breakout function, use it. Break team into 4 groups just because zoom has that feature. After the call asks them to join Whatsapp group, let some also use Reddit for discussion thread and yes google email group should be the backup.
CO-ORDINATOR: The first quality you need to have to be in this role is the ability to push work on others. Apply oil to your body and come to the office. No work should stick to you. Your day starts and ends with delegating and following-up.
SHAPER: Primary job is to offend people in the name of overcoming obstacles. Everyone is a boxing bag for you, so keep shaping left, right and centre.
MONITOR EVALUATOR: First quality to have for this role is the ability to be passive-aggressive. Find a mistake in everything that is happening. Every time a PLANT puts seeds, your job is to tell how they will grow into weeds.
TEAM WORKER: Initially, no one will listen to you. Then you will see evolutionary biology will take away your ability to confront. You will naturally become indecisive.
IMPLEMENTER: Think twice before taking this role. Everyone will call themselves a team player but you will be the only person who will have to work. If you anyway don't have much to do in life, you can be this one!
COMPLETER / FINISHER: You should be that football player who wants to make the goal. And so many a times you don't give the ball to anyone else. Implementer and Anxiety are your friends.
SPECIALIST: Wait, this is not the right time. Due to global pandemic, there are no fancy conferences, no cocktail parties, no business travels. So keep hiding behind your "expertise". Things which only you know in the whole world because you have not told anyone what those are.
