I am not a doctor

Many think that I am the latest entrant in the gadget world. My birth year is 1965. I was known as Manpo-Kei, which translates to '10,000 steps meter'. Dr Yoshiro Hatano, a Japanese professor at the Kyushu University of health and welfare was researching on how to combat obesity. He suggested that 10,000 steps a day with proper caloric intake can maintain a healthy body. That's how I came into existence. Even today my new avatars like Fitbit and other wearables aim for 10,000 steps a day.

In order to improve or control something, you have to measure it. Thus as a tracker, I can help you track your activity levels, heartbeat, sleep depths, pulse rate etc. Till the time you are using me as a guidance for improvement, it's all well. Recently though I find people rely too much and too quickly on me. I see it as a problem. Continuous tracking is causing anxiety among my users. Then they do self-diagnosis based on reading on google. This not only is foolish, but also can be dangerous. I would recommend you to consult a doctor for any serious conditions you face and not just depend on my reading. That said, you can definitely use me as a tracker, a reference/benchmark for your activities. Also with the gamification associated with my application, I can be a huge motivator to keep you on track and inspire higher goals.

So, I am a guide, a friend who shows you mirror and motivates you. I am not a doctor though.
