The latest podcast of Thirteen is on the lizard brain and how it makes us stressful in the modern age. One other aspect we touch on in this episode is about how insecure and immature we were when we started doing podcasts. I was concerned about validation. Will I be able to deliver to the best of my abilities? Am I prepared and will I sound smart and intelligent? What will people say about my ideas, delivery and voice? Am I really good enough to do this? These are not just questions but its a burden I carried on my head and shoulders. And this is not only for podcasts but many creative things I indulge in.
There is always a fear of being judged and criticized. More than that, will people take me seriously or will they make fun of me. The best way or rather the only way to learn swimming is to enter the water. Thinking about what will happen in the water is just a thought, it's not a real experience. How so ever you may be imaginative in your thinking the actual touch of cold water cannot be created in thoughts.
You then don't do things to impress, you do them to express.
Many things in life especially which are creative and experiential are like swimming. Thinking about them will be a good cognitive exercise and may sometime justify our fears but the rubber meets the road only when we take action. Once you do that there is no need for any external validation. You then don't do things to impress, you do them to express.
