Chimpanzees and Human Beings share 98.8% of a similar DNA, yet the way we are evolved and comprehend the world around is significantly different. That difference of 1.2% in our DNA is either a boon or a bane to the species that are reading this article.
On one side, we are a highly evolved species. We perceive the world, respond to it in a civilised manner (although debatable!). We, as human beings, have developed strong social networks, have developed complex language to capture the vividness of life, can experience subtle changes in our emotional state. All of it enriches our living experience. On the other hand, chimpanzees don't have to worry about where their next meal is coming from or the tax they have to file or the current state of politics or their job.
The reason chimpanzees don't have to worry about any of these things is because they (mostly) live in the moment - not by choice but by design. On the other hand, we human beings comprehend time and space differently. We can anticipate a situation, live our memories or the future that is yet to arrive. If only we could consciously bring ourselves into the right now, we would be so much more peaceful though.
