Student: Dear Sir, I want to learn Time Management from you. Can you please help me understand the concept?
Mentor: My dear student, it is good to see your curiosity for different things and your interest in learning. But, what do you mean by Time Management? How are you going to manage time?
Student: Sir, I am not going to manage time in general. I want to learn how do I manage my time.
Mentor: So please manage it, my dear student. How can I help you in managing your time?
Student: Sir, I want to learn the new tools by which I can manage my time better. Some new methods.
Mentor: What happened to your old tools? Are they not effective now? When were they effective?
Student: You are asking me too many questions, Sir. To be honest, I have read and learned about many tools and methods of Time Management in the last 10 years. None of them worked for me. It felt good to learn the concept but I could hardly do anything productive from those tools. I also spent money on buying some tools and templates. I also spent time doing training programmes on Time Management. None of that has helped me. Now, as a last resort, I have approached you.
Mentor: For another new tool or template?
Student: Hmmm, I am feeling a bit ashamed now, but yes.
Mentor: Why are you feeling ashamed?
Student: As I did not come to you first.
Mentor: Oh, so you are missing the point. It's not about coming to me or going to anyone else. The point is do you still believe that there is a tool or technique which someone else will give you to manage your time. Also can one really manage one's time? There are many such questions we have to discuss before we understand your concerns, my dear student. Let's meet again tomorrow same time. Till then, please ponder upon the questions we've discussed today.
