The Morning Walk

The rainy season was over but the rains were not. I was returning from my morning walk. I normally listen to podcasts or music while I am walking. Sometimes I am lost in the podcast I am listening. Some other times I am lost in my thoughts. Still, I keep bringing my focus back to my surroundings. The trees, the insects, the vehicles passing by, the kids playing around and the sound of birds. I walk on a road which is an internal by-pass. It’s not the main road. So the mornings are very quiet and no traffic. I prefer walking on the road while going and take the footpath on my return.

As I was transiting with a jump from the road on to the footpath, I saw an insect crossing the footpath. I somehow managed to save the insect on whom I was about to step. It was a good feeling to save the poor creature. I had to strengthen my leg a bit and it hurt me a little but that was definitely worth saving the life of the insect I felt. I continued my walking thinking about this incident. Suddenly I don’t know why I wanted to go back and see how the insect completes its journey of crossing the road and the footpath. As I went back and saw the insect was about to reach the other end. I thought of capturing the creature with my phone camera. As I was about to start shooting it, a chameleon came from nowhere and swallowed the insect.

Life is so strange and uncertain. The life I assumed I saved was no more there just after a few moments. If I had not gone back to check the completion insects journey I would not have known about the end. For me it was a story, for the chameleon it was food and for the insect It was life.
