Uncertainty is Certain

I love going to the beaches. As a child too, I liked the seashore. One of my favourite things like all kids was to make sandcastles. I remember making a big castle using sand, sticks and some pebbles. I had put efforts and whatever intelligence I had at age seven into making it. When the castle was ready, I ran to call my parents to show them how beautiful and colossal castle I made with sand and sticks. By the time I pulled my parents to the castle, it was no more. A big wave had washed it thoroughly. There was no evidence whatsoever of the beauty or magnanimity of that castle. I kept on telling my parent how big it was and believed me, but somehow it was not the same as showing them.

This kind of incidents keeps happening with all of us. Some may find to deal with them more frequently than others. Some times there are certain blind-spots and a coaching issue, some other times there is no logic to define them into any frame. For a practical exam during my college days, I had done the preparation. It was a computer programing practical. My theory exam for that same subject went well, but it was the opposite during the practical exam. I just could not run the program. Either my syntax of the programming language was incorrect, or my logic was wrong. I had done challenging work like no kidding to prepare for this exam. Yet, I could barely pass the exam. I felt similar the way I had after seeing the castle wash away.

Some others find that escape in rituals, temples, meditation and renunciation.

As I mentioned above, if it’s due to a blind-spot, you can handle it by coaching. But, if it's just due to uncertainty, then how to deal with it. As J Krishnamurthi says, "The actual state of every human being is uncertainty. Those who realise the actual state of uncertainty either see the fact and live with it there or they go off, become neurotic because they cannot face that uncertainty."

Many run away from that uncertainty finding escape in alcohol or drugs. Some others find that escape in rituals, temples, meditation and renunciation. Is this escape permanent? Is there certainty in this? No. The only certainty is the uncertainty of life.
